Habitat for Humanity will be the first beneficiary of an annual campaign to assist local affordable housing programs

Eugene, OR – Sir Paints A Lot and Forrest Paint Co. are leading an ambitious charitable initiative to donate 300 hours of labor and 150 gallons of paint to beautify homes for Fischer Village in Springfield for Habitat.

Dubbed Paint for a Cause, this inaugural initiative seeks to donate a portion of the goods and services for every contracted painting project completed through Sir Paints A Lot using Forrest Paint between November and January.  Sir Paints A Lot will donate 10 percent of the labor used for each project and Forrest Paint will donate 5 percent of the total paint volume used.  For a typical 50-hour, 25 gallons of paint job, this would come out to 2 ½ gallons and 5 hours donated.

The business partnership hopes to reach 300 hours of donated labor and 150 gallons of donated paint by the end of January 2020.

“Our goal is to raise about $36,000 — in retail value — for Habitat for Humanity,” said Shawn Derby, Owner of Sir Paints A Lot. “Our ultimate objective is to paint two, two-story single-family homes built in tandem style for Habitat for Humanity.”

Construction of these tandem homes is scheduled to begin next spring with painting likely to happen in the fall, according to Habitat.

Paint for a Cause invites our customers to join our efforts to support affordable housing,” said Kim Forrest, Marketing Director and second-generation co-owner of Eugene’s Forrest Paint Co.  “When customers choose local, we are able to contribute more and greater impact the creative community-based solutions put forward by non-profits

This ambitious community outreach project is expected to have a sizeable impact on a lot of lives.

“There is a huge need for affordable housing in Lane County,” said Kellie DeVore, Executive Director of habitat.  We appreciate members of the business community choosing to help support homeownership through Habitat.  We’ve worked with Forrest Paint before, and have always been happy with the quality of their work and their paint. ”

This outreach initiative is the first of what will be an annual campaign that focuses on benefiting affordable housing measures in Lane County.  Forrest Paint Co. and Sir Paints A Lot will continue together to forge community outreach campaigns with donated labor and materials.

The timing of these charitable campaigns will also be the Thanksgiving and Christmas season.  This coincides perfectly with the theme of giving back to the community, Derby explains. “This is the time of year for fellowship, merriment and thankfulness,” said Derby. “I see a lot of value in adding to the well-being of our community. With yearly initiatives like Paint for a Cause, we look forward to building our relationships with giving organizations like Habitat for Humanity.”
