Director, Corporation Division, and Tribal Liaison

By Greg Henderson

As Interim Director, Ruth oversees registration of businesses and nonprofits for the Secretary of State, along with a diverse portfolio including notary commissioning and the state’s UCC system. She also serves as the agency’s tribal liaison. Ruth previously served as the Secretary’s inaugural Small Business Ombudsman, growing that program from a one-person office into one of the most robust programs of its kind in the country. With 18 years of experience running small businesses, Ruth understands first-hand the challenges that entrepreneurs face. An avid kayaker, she came to the Secretary of State after nine years in the legislative branch, where she helped constituents navigate the shifting waters and complexities of state government.

Ruth Miles has been a tremendous help to the Small Business Development Center in Roseburg since first being introduced to the group of advisors several years ago. She takes her job seriously and is always responsive to requests. There are people in business and in government who rely on her and the resources at her disposal who might otherwise become frustrated with delays and unhelpful direction. Ruth will put forth her best efforts to assist with small concerns and very large issues with equal zeal and professionalism.

Her position as Director of the Corporate Division, and Tribal Liaison is a responsibility every Oregonian should welcome.

Congratulations Ruth.
